AuTri-C is a geometrically distinct, tri-coordinated gold(I) complex featuring an N^N-bidentate ligand and an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand. Developed for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the compound is designed to overcome the limitations of conventional therapies, such as drug resistance and poor targetability in the brain. AuTri-C acts by modulating mitochondrial morphology, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the subsequent induction of apoptosis in cancer cells. Preclinical studies in both in vitro and in vivo models have demonstrated its ability to inhibit GBM growth and recurrence, highlighting its potential as a novel anti-GBM therapeutic agent.
