Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AV-1959R is a recombinant protein-based vaccine developed for the prevention of Alzheimer's disease. It is designed to induce the production of anti-amyloid beta (Aβ) antibodies, thereby preventing the formation of amyloid plaques in the brain—a hallmark of Alzheimer's pathology. The vaccine utilizes a MultiTEP platform, containing three copies of an Aβ B cell epitope (Aβ1–11) attached to a carrier that activates both naïve and memory T helper cells, enhancing immune response even in older adults with immunosenescence. Preclinical studies have shown that AV-1959R formulated with Advax CpG adjuvant elicits strong Th cell and anti-Aβ antibody responses, which are associated with reduced brain pathology in animal models. The primary indication for AV-1959R is Alzheimer's disease prevention[1][4][5][7].
