Overview

AV-GBM-1 is a personalized immunotherapy classified as a dendritic cell vaccine. It consists of autologous (patient-derived) dendritic cells that are pulsed with autologous tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) derived from the patient’s own glioblastoma tumor tissue. The manufacturing process involves collecting tumor tissue during surgery to establish a short-term culture of self-renewing tumor cells (tumor initiating cells), which are then lysed and used to pulse the patient’s monocyte-derived dendritic cells. These activated dendritic cells are administered subcutaneously, typically admixed with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) as an adjuvant prior to injection[2][3][5][8]. Upon administration, the vaccine exposes the immune system to glioblastoma-specific neoantigens and stimulates cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses against residual cancer cells[4]. Developed by AiVita Biomedical, AV-GBM-1 is being investigated primarily for newly diagnosed glioblastoma in combination with standard-of-care therapies such as surgery, radiation therapy, and temozolomide chemotherapy[6][7].
