AV-OVA-1 is an autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy developed by Aivita Biomedical for the treatment of advanced or recurrent ovarian cancer. The therapeutic process involves isolating a patient's own dendritic cells and pulsing them with autologous tumor antigens derived from the patient's tumor-initiating cells (cancer stem cells). This personalized approach is designed to train the patient's immune system to identify and destroy the self-renewing cells responsible for tumor growth and chemoresistance. AV-OVA-1 is typically administered as a series of subcutaneous injections following primary debulking surgery and frontline chemotherapy, aiming to prevent recurrence and improve overall survival by targeting the root of the malignancy.
