AV024

AV024 is a monovalent, live-attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) candidate developed by MedImmune (a subsidiary of AstraZeneca). It is a 6:2 reassortant virus created using the cold-adapted A/Ann Arbor/6/60 master donor strain, which provides the internal protein genes, and the A/Vietnam/1203/2004 (H5N1) strain, which provides the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) surface antigens. Designed for intranasal administration, AV024 aims to elicit a broad immune response, including mucosal IgA and systemic IgG, to protect against highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1. The vaccine was primarily evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults as part of pandemic preparedness efforts.
