Overview

Avacc 11 (NGoXIM) is a prophylactic intranasal vaccine candidate designed to prevent gonorrhea, an infection caused by the bacterium *Neisseria gonorrhoeae*. Developed by Intravacc in collaboration with Therapyx, the vaccine utilizes Intravacc's outer membrane vesicle (OMV) platform. It consists of *N. gonorrhoeae* OMVs and microsphere-encapsulated interleukin-12 (IL-12), which acts as a potent Th1-directing adjuvant. This combination is intended to elicit robust systemic and mucosal immune responses, including the production of genital antibodies, to provide protection at the primary site of infection. The project has received significant support, including a $14.6 million NIH/NIAID contract in 2022 and a CARB-X award in 2024 to advance its development.
