Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Avacc 3 is a candidate vaccine developed by Intravacc B.V. for the prevention of whooping cough (pertussis). It utilizes Intravacc's proprietary outer membrane vesicle (OMV) platform technology and contains homologous Bordetella pertussis antigens. Designed for intranasal administration, the vaccine aims to induce both systemic and mucosal immune responses, potentially offering superior protection compared to traditional acellular vaccines by targeting the pathogen at its point of entry in the upper respiratory tract. In 2022, Intravacc entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Beijing Zhifei Lvzhu Biopharmaceutical for its commercialization in China and non-exclusive rights for Africa, South America, and selected Asian countries. The vaccine is currently in development, with ongoing work on upscaling and toxicology studies.
