Avantamine

Avantamine is a small molecule antimicrobial compound developed by AvantGuard, Inc. (formerly Halomine), a company spun out of Cornell University. The drug utilizes a chloramine-based chemistry, specifically a nitrogen-chlorine linked compound, designed to mimic the body's natural immune defenses against pathogens. Avantamine exhibits broad-spectrum activity against bacteria (including methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* [MRSA] and impetigo), viruses, fungi (such as *Candida auris*, ringworm, and athlete's foot), and their associated biofilms. It is being developed for a variety of applications, including topical treatments for acute and chronic wound care, antiseptic body washes intended to replace chlorhexidine, and antimicrobial coatings for medical devices and surfaces. The technology is based on over 30 years of research licensed from Cornell University and Auburn University.
