Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Avanz Mite mix is a subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) product developed by ALK-Abelló for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and associated asthma caused by house dust mites. It contains biological extracts from the two major house dust mite species, *Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus* and *Dermatophagoides farinae*, formulated with an aluminum hydroxide adjuvant. The vaccine works by modulating the immune system, specifically by inducing the production of allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies and reducing immediate skin reactivity and IgE-mediated responses. This shift in the immune profile helps desensitize patients to the allergens, thereby reducing symptoms of perennial allergic rhinitis and potentially preventing the progression to asthma.
