Overview
Avanz Salsola kali is a subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) product developed by ALK-Abelló for the treatment of IgE-mediated allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis caused by *Salsola kali* (Russian thistle) pollen. The product consists of standardized allergen extracts adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide, which acts as an adjuvant to provide a depot effect, allowing for a gradual release of the allergen. The mechanism of action involves inducing allergen-specific immune tolerance by modulating the immune system's response, typically characterized by a shift from a Th2-dominated allergic response to a Th1/Treg-dominated profile, an increase in allergen-specific IgG4 'blocking' antibodies, and a reduction in the sensitivity of mast cells and basophils to the allergen.
