avatrombopag + recombinant human thrombopoietin

A combination therapy consisting of avatrombopag, an oral thrombopoietin receptor agonist, and recombinant human thrombopoietin (rh-TPO), a subcutaneously administered protein that mimics endogenous thrombopoietin. Both medications work through the thrombopoietin pathway to increase platelet production but through different mechanisms. Avatrombopag binds to and stimulates the thrombopoietin receptor, while rh-TPO acts as the natural ligand. This combination has been studied for treating severe thrombocytopenia, particularly in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who are refractory to other treatments.
