Overview
AVAXIM 160U is an inactivated viral vaccine developed by Sanofi for the prevention of hepatitis A infection in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older. The vaccine contains purified hepatitis A virus (GBM strain) that has been cultured on MRC-5 human diploid cells, inactivated with formaldehyde, and adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to enhance the immune response. It works by stimulating the production of specific humoral antibodies against the hepatitis A virus (HAV), providing active immunization. Clinical studies indicate that 100% of immunocompetent individuals achieve protective antibody levels within one month of the first dose, with a booster dose recommended 6 to 36 months later to ensure long-term protection.
