Avaxim Junior is an inactivated hepatitis A vaccine indicated for active immunisation against infection caused by the hepatitis A virus (HAV) in children aged 1 to 15 years. The vaccine contains inactivated HAV (GBM strain), produced in human diploid (MRC-5) cells and adsorbed on aluminium hydroxide as an adjuvant. Upon intramuscular injection, it stimulates the immune system to produce protective antibodies against HAV without causing infection. Protection begins within two weeks of the first dose, with over 94% of immunocompetent children developing seroprotective antibody levels at that time. Long-term protection is achieved with a booster dose administered between 6 months and up to 10 years after the initial vaccination; studies show persistence of antibodies for at least ten years post-vaccination. The vaccine does not protect against other hepatitis viruses such as B, C or E[1][2][5][8].
