Overview
AVCET is a biosimilar monoclonal antibody developed by Avesta Biotherapeutics & Research (a subsidiary of Avesthagen). It is designed as a biosimilar to the reference product Erbitux (cetuximab), targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). AVCET is primarily indicated for the treatment of colorectal cancer. Its mechanism of action involves binding to the extracellular domain of EGFR, which prevents the binding of endogenous ligands such as epidermal growth factor (EGF) and transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-alpha). This inhibition blocks the activation of downstream signaling pathways, including the MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways, thereby suppressing tumor cell proliferation, inducing apoptosis, and reducing angiogenesis and metastasis. AVCET is part of Avesta's pipeline aimed at providing more accessible biological therapies for oncology.
