Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AVD275 is a long-acting, intra-articular injectable formulation of celecoxib being developed by Avidence Therapeutics for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Celecoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. By delivering a sustained-release formulation directly into the joint space, AVD275 aims to provide prolonged analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects while reducing the risk of systemic adverse events typically associated with oral COX-2 inhibitors, such as gastrointestinal and cardiovascular complications. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety and pharmacokinetics.
