Overview

AVE8112 is an investigational small molecule drug developed as a selective phosphodiesterase type 4 (PDE4) inhibitor. It was originally developed by Sanofi (formerly sanofi-aventis) and investigated in collaboration with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The primary indication was for the treatment of cognitive impairment associated with Parkinson’s disease, and it was also explored for Alzheimer’s disease. Preclinical studies suggested pro-cognitive activity, making it a potential therapy for neurodegenerative disorders where cognitive decline is prominent. Clinical development reached phase I trials but has since been discontinued[2][3][6][8].
