Overview

Avelumab + lurbinectedin is an investigational combination therapy being studied primarily for the treatment of small cell lung cancer. Avelumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), blocking its interaction with PD-1 and thereby enhancing T-cell mediated immune responses against tumor cells. Lurbinectedin is a DNA alkylating agent that binds to guanine residues in the DNA minor groove, causing DNA damage, inhibiting transcription, and ultimately leading to cancer cell death. The combination aims to leverage both direct cytotoxic effects on tumor cells (lurbinectedin) and immune-mediated anti-tumor activity (avelumab). Both drugs are administered intravenously[1][2][5][6].
