Overview

Avenanthramide C is a naturally occurring bioactive polyphenol and small molecule isolated from oat seeds (*Avena sativa* L.). It is characterized by its potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and neuroprotective properties. Mechanistically, it suppresses pro-inflammatory signaling pathways such as NF-κB and TNF-α, reduces reactive oxygen species (ROS), and modulates apoptotic markers like cleaved caspase-3. Preclinical research has explored its potential in treating Alzheimer's disease, protecting against noise- and drug-induced hearing loss, and mitigating cisplatin-induced toxicities, including neurotoxicity ('chemobrain') and cardiotoxicity. Additionally, it has been investigated for dermatological applications, specifically for improving skin tone and reducing hyperpigmentation in atopic dermatitis by inhibiting tyrosinase and melanogenesis.
