Overview

AVENT is an etanercept biosimilar developed by Avestha Gengraine Technologies (Avesthagen). It is a recombinant fusion protein consisting of the extracellular ligand-binding portion of the human 75 kDa (p75) tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) linked to the Fc portion of human IgG1. AVENT acts as a TNF-alpha decoy, binding to and neutralizing circulating tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), thereby preventing its interaction with cell surface TNF receptors. This mechanism effectively reduces the inflammatory response associated with autoimmune disorders. The drug is primarily targeted for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriasis. It has completed preclinical toxicity and efficacy studies, demonstrating high structural and functional similarity to the reference biologic, etanercept.
