Overview

AVGTRI is a monoclonal antibody biosimilar of cetuximab (Erbitux), developed by Avestha Gengraine Technologies (Avesthagen). It is designed to target the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a transmembrane glycoprotein that is overexpressed in various solid tumors. By binding specifically to the extracellular domain of EGFR, AVGTRI competitively inhibits the binding of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and other ligands, such as transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-alpha). This blockade prevents receptor phosphorylation and the subsequent activation of downstream signaling pathways, including the MAPK, PI3K/Akt, and JAK/STAT pathways, which are critical for cell proliferation, survival, and angiogenesis. While primarily developed for oncological indications like colorectal cancer, the developer's pipeline also mentions potential applications in rheumatoid arthritis and trichoma disease, though these are unconventional for the EGFR-targeting class.
