AVI-CO-004

AVI-CO-004 is a first-in-class small molecule drug candidate developed by Avixgen for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It targets the HIV-1 nucleocapsid (NC) protein, a highly conserved component of the virus that is essential for multiple stages of the viral life cycle, including genomic RNA packaging, reverse transcription, and viral assembly. By binding to the NC protein, AVI-CO-004 disrupts these critical processes and is designed to provide a high genetic barrier to resistance. The drug has undergone Phase 2 clinical trials, including randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics following repeated oral administration in HIV-infected individuals.
