avibactam tomilopil

Avibactam tomilopil (AV-006) is an orally available prodrug of avibactam, a non-beta-lactam beta-lactamase inhibitor. It is designed to restore the activity of oral beta-lactam antibiotics against resistant Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial beta-lactamases that would otherwise inactivate these antibiotics. Avibactam itself has no intrinsic antibacterial activity but works by covalently binding to and inhibiting bacterial beta-lactamases, thereby preventing the hydrolysis and inactivation of partner beta-lactams. The drug was initially developed by Arixa Pharmaceuticals and later further developed by Pfizer. Its primary indication is for the treatment of infections caused by Enterobacteriaceae and other Gram-negative bacteria producing beta-lactamases[1][2][3][4][7].
