avidin + 90Y-DOTA-biotin

Avidin-biotin-DOTA-90Y is an investigational two-component radiopharmaceutical system utilized in the Intraoperative Avidination for Radionuclide Therapy (IART®) protocol. The therapy involves the intralesional injection of avidin into the tumor bed (typically following a vacuum-assisted biopsy of nonpalpable breast cancer), where it remains localized as a molecular trap. This is followed by the administration of 90Y-DOTA-biotin, which consists of the radioisotope yttrium-90 (a high-energy beta emitter) complexed with DOTA and conjugated to biotin. The extremely high affinity between avidin and biotin ensures the rapid and stable capture of the radiolabeled biotin at the tumor site, delivering targeted ionizing radiation to destroy residual cancer cells while minimizing systemic toxicity.
