AvidinOX + biotinylated camptothecin is an experimental therapeutic system developed by Kiran Biotech for the treatment of ovarian cancer and other solid tumors. The platform utilizes **Artificial Receptor Technology (ART)**, which centers on **AvidinOX**, a chemically oxidized form of avidin. When administered locally (e.g., into the peritoneal cavity for ovarian cancer), AvidinOX acts as a tissue-bound artificial receptor by forming stable covalent Schiff base bonds with the amino groups of tissue proteins, effectively creating a long-lasting docking station. Subsequently, a biotinylated cytotoxic agent, such as **biotinylated camptothecin** or its analogues (e.g., gimatecan), is administered. Due to the extremely high affinity of biotin for avidin, the chemotherapy is captured and concentrated at the site of the AvidinOX-bound tissue. This mechanism allows for the sustained release of the drug within the tumor microenvironment, maximizing local therapeutic efficacy while significantly reducing systemic exposure and associated toxicities.
