Overview

Avipattikar Churna is a traditional Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation used primarily for the treatment of digestive ailments related to Pitta dosha imbalance, such as hyperacidity, gastritis, and constipation. The formulation consists of 14 ingredients, including Trikatu (ginger and peppers), Triphala (three myrobalans), and a significant proportion of Operculina turpethum (Trivrit) and Syzygium aromaticum (clove). Its therapeutic efficacy is attributed to its antacid, anti-secretory, and mild laxative properties. Mechanistically, it works by neutralizing excess gastric acid and potentially inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase pump, while its high fiber and glycoside content from Trivrit promotes bowel regularity. It is a staple in Ayurvedic practice and is manufactured by numerous traditional medicine companies in India, where it is officially recognized in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia.
