Overview
AviPro Megan Vac 1 is a live attenuated bacterial vaccine developed by Elanco Animal Health for the protection of poultry against *Salmonella* infections. The vaccine consists of a genetically modified strain of *Salmonella Typhimurium* that has been attenuated through the deletion of two key metabolic genes: *crp* (cyclic AMP receptor protein) and *cya* (adenylate cyclase). This attenuation ensures the bacterium is non-pathogenic while remaining capable of colonizing the gut and lymphoid tissues to stimulate a robust immune response. It is indicated for use in chickens (broilers, layers, and breeders) to reduce the colonization of internal organs and the digestive tract by *Salmonella Typhimurium*, *Salmonella Enteritidis*, and *Salmonella Heidelberg*. The vaccination protocol typically involves a spray application at one day of age followed by a second dose administered via drinking water at 14 days of age.
