Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Avocado oil is an edible oil extracted from the pulp of the avocado fruit (*Persea americana*). It is highly regarded for its nutritional profile, being rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), particularly oleic acid, as well as vitamin E, phytosterols, and carotenoids. Preclinical research, including studies in rabbit models, has demonstrated that avocado oil possesses anti-atherogenic properties comparable to olive and corn oils. These effects are characterized by a reduction in the severity of atherosclerosis and an increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. Beyond its cardiovascular benefits, avocado oil is widely used in topical applications for its emollient and skin-penetrating properties.
