AVR-121

AVR-121 is a first-in-class, small molecule immunomodulator being developed by AyuVis Research. It acts as a dual modulator of Toll-like Receptor 2 (TLR2) and Toll-like Receptor 4 (TLR4), designed to balance the innate immune response. Unlike traditional immunosuppressants, AVR-121 works by inhibiting pro-inflammatory signaling while simultaneously activating anti-inflammatory pathways and promoting tissue repair. The drug is primarily targeted at preventing necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm infants, a condition for which it has received Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) and Rare Pediatric Disease Designation (RPDD) from the FDA. It is also under investigation for other critical inflammatory conditions, including peritonitis and sepsis.
