AVS1003 is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody developed as a biosimilar candidate for bevacizumab (Avastin). It is designed to target and inhibit the activity of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a key protein involved in the promotion of angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels). By binding to VEGF, AVS1003 prevents the interaction of VEGF with its receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) on the surface of endothelial cells, thereby inhibiting the vascularization of tumors and suppressing tumor growth. The drug was primarily developed for the treatment of various solid tumors, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and colorectal cancer, where VEGF-mediated angiogenesis plays a critical role in disease progression.
