Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AVT-02 UE is a topical drug candidate developed by Avontec GmbH for the treatment of inflammatory skin diseases, specifically atopic dermatitis. It is formulated as a 2% ointment. The active ingredient is a transcription factor decoy, which is a double-stranded oligonucleotide designed to inhibit the activity of Nuclear Factor-kappa B (NF-κB). By mimicking the DNA binding sequence of NF-κB, the decoy competitively binds to the transcription factor, preventing it from interacting with its genomic promoter sequences. This action downregulates the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators involved in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis. The drug has been evaluated in Phase IIa clinical trials in Germany for adults with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis.
