AVT-80

AVT-80 is an investigational biosimilar monoclonal antibody developed by Alvotech Swiss AG. It is designed as a biosimilar to vedolizumab (marketed as Entyvio), which is an approved biologic for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. AVT-80 specifically targets the α4β7 integrin, a cell adhesion molecule expressed on gut-homing T lymphocytes. By binding to α4β7 integrin, AVT-80 inhibits its interaction with mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule 1 (MAdCAM-1) on endothelial cells in the gastrointestinal tract. This blockade prevents lymphocyte migration into inflamed gut tissue, thereby reducing local inflammation associated with conditions like ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for pharmacokinetics, safety, immunogenicity, and tolerability compared to Entyvio in healthy volunteers[2][5][7].
