Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AVT05 is a proposed biosimilar to Simponi and Simponi Aria, which are brand names for golimumab, a monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha), a cytokine involved in systemic inflammation. By inhibiting TNF alpha, golimumab reduces inflammation associated with several chronic inflammatory diseases. AVT05 is being developed by Alvotech in partnership with Teva Pharmaceuticals for the US market and Advanz Pharma for Europe. It is intended to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other inflammatory diseases. As of early 2025, AVT05 has not received regulatory approval but has demonstrated therapeutic equivalence to Simponi in clinical trials[1][2][4][6].
