Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AVT29 is a recombinant fusion protein and an investigational biosimilar candidate to Eylea HD (aflibercept) 8 mg, developed by Alvotech. It is designed to bind vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF), thereby inhibiting the binding and activation of VEGF receptors, which suppresses neovascularization and vascular permeability in the eye. This mechanism mirrors that of aflibercept, a widely used biologic for treating retinal diseases such as neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), macular edema, and diabetic retinopathy. AVT29 has not yet received regulatory approval in any country[1][2][3][5][9].
