Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AVTX-406 is a small molecule drug that acts as a selective catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor. It was originally discovered by Merck & Co and further developed by Avalo Therapeutics (formerly Cerecor). The primary mechanism of action is inhibition of the COMT enzyme, which plays a role in the metabolism of catecholamines such as dopamine. This neuro-selective COMT inhibitor was being developed as an oral adjunctive therapy to levodopa/carbidopa for patients with Parkinson’s disease experiencing "off-periods" in symptom management. It has also been considered for depressive disorders[1][7].
