Overview

AVX70371 is a novel therapeutic vaccine developed by AstriVax Therapeutics for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is based on the proprietary Launch-iT technology platform and utilizes a plasmid-launched live attenuated virus (PLLAV) approach. The vaccine consists of a genetically modified yellow fever 17D viral vector expressing the core protein of HBV (HBc). Upon administration, it induces in vivo production of the live attenuated virus that stimulates robust CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses specifically targeting HBV-infected hepatocytes. This immunotherapeutic strategy aims to overcome immune exhaustion seen in chronic HBV patients and could form part of a functional cure when used in combination with other therapies. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity.
