AWKN-001

AWKN-001 is an investigational, novel medication-assisted treatment for severe Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). It consists of intravenous administration of ketamine, an N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-modulating drug, combined with manualized psycho-social support or relapse prevention cognitive behavioral therapy. The therapy is designed to reduce alcohol relapse and promote abstinence in individuals with severe AUD. Developed by Awakn Life Sciences, the regimen is currently being evaluated in a Phase 3 clinical trial in the UK (the MORE-KARE study), co-funded by the UK's Medical Research Council and National Institute for Health and Care Research. In a prior Phase 2 trial, AWKN-001 demonstrated significant efficacy—achieving 86% abstinence over six months post-treatment compared to 2% pre-trial[1][2][4].
