Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AX-008 is a conditioned mesenchymal stem cell (cMSC) therapy being developed by Axiom Biosciences for the treatment of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE). Unlike traditional stem cell therapies that involve the transplantation of live cells, AX-008 utilizes the secretome—a complex mixture of growth factors, cytokines, and extracellular vesicles—produced by mesenchymal stem cells during the conditioning process. This cell-free approach is designed to leverage the paracrine signaling of stem cells to promote neuroprotection, reduce neuroinflammation, and stimulate endogenous repair mechanisms in the neonatal brain following oxygen deprivation. The program is currently in clinical development, with pipeline data indicating progress into Phase 2 trials.
