Overview

Axclav is a branded generic antibiotic product developed and manufactured by Wellmed Pharma, an Indian pharmaceutical company. It is a combination therapy typically comprising amoxicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, and potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins, while potassium clavulanate acts as a suicide inhibitor of beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing the degradation of amoxicillin by resistant bacteria. Certain oral formulations, such as AXCLAV 625 LB, also include Lactic Bacillus, a probiotic intended to restore intestinal flora and mitigate antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Axclav is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections. It is available in both oral tablet and injectable forms.
