Axillary microbial transplantation is an experimental microbiome-based therapy developed by researchers at Ghent University, led by Dr. Chris Callewaert, for the treatment of bromhidrosis (excessive body odor). The procedure involves the transfer of a healthy microbial community from the armpit of a non-malodorous donor to a recipient whose axillary microbiome is dominated by odor-producing bacteria, primarily *Corynebacterium* species. By introducing commensal bacteria such as *Staphylococcus hominis* and *Staphylococcus epidermidis*, the transplant aims to shift the microbial composition toward a non-odor-producing state. Clinical evaluations have demonstrated high short-term success rates in reducing malodor by altering the metabolic activity of the axillary skin flora.
