axitinib

Axitinib is a second-generation, orally administered small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, and VEGFR-3). By inhibiting these receptors, axitinib blocks angiogenesis—the formation of new blood vessels—which is essential for tumor growth and metastasis. It also inhibits other kinases at higher concentrations, including platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFRα/β) and c-Kit. Axitinib is primarily indicated for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), particularly after failure of one prior systemic therapy or in combination with immunotherapy agents as first-line treatment. The drug was developed by Pfizer and is marketed under the brand name Inlyta[1][6][8].
