Overview

This is a collection of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immune checkpoint inhibitors used in the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Axitinib, cabozantinib, lenvatinib, pazopanib, and sunitinib are all tyrosine kinase inhibitors that work by blocking the activity of proteins that cancer cells use to help them divide and grow, particularly targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs). Immune checkpoint inhibitors represent a class of immunotherapy drugs that help the immune system recognize and attack cancer cells. These medications are used either as monotherapy or in specific combinations for the treatment of advanced RCC, with treatment selection often based on prior therapy history and risk stratification.
