Axitinib + docetaxel is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used in oncology clinical trials for the treatment of advanced solid tumors and metastatic breast cancer. Axitinib is an oral small molecule inhibitor that selectively targets vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, and VEGFR-3), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis and tumor growth[4][8]. Docetaxel is a semisynthetic taxane antineoplastic agent that promotes microtubule assembly and stabilizes microtubules by preventing their depolymerization; this disrupts normal cell division and induces apoptosis in cancer cells[1][6]. The combination has been studied for its potential to enhance antitumor efficacy compared to either agent alone. Clinical studies have shown increased toxicity with the combination but also higher objective response rates in some patient subgroups[2][3].
