Overview

Axomadol is a synthetic, centrally acting opioid analgesic structurally related to tramadol. It acts as an agonist at the μ-opioid receptor and also inhibits the reuptake of the monoamines noradrenaline and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine). Axomadol was developed for the treatment of moderate to severe chronic pain conditions such as chronic low back pain and arthrosis. The drug reached phase II clinical trials but did not meet predetermined efficacy endpoints, leading to discontinuation of its development[1][3][6].
