AXP1275 is an orally administered small molecule drug that acts as a selective antagonist of the C-C chemokine receptor type 3 (CCR3). CCR3 is a key receptor for eotaxins, which are major chemoattractants for eosinophils and are elevated in asthma, correlating with disease severity. By inhibiting CCR3, AXP1275 aims to reduce airway inflammation and hyperreactivity associated with allergic asthma. The drug was developed by Axikin Pharmaceuticals (a spin-out from Actimis Pharmaceuticals) and reached Phase II clinical trials for allergic asthma. In clinical studies, daily administration of 50 mg was found to be safe and well tolerated but showed limited efficacy over short treatment periods, possibly due to low and variable exposure[1][2][4].
