AXR-270

AXR-270 is a highly potent, pharmacologically differentiated selective glucocorticoid receptor agonist (SeGRA) developed by AxeroVision for the treatment of dry eye disease associated with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and posterior blepharitis[2][3][4][5][6]. It is formulated as a topical cream for once-daily application to the eyelids, aiming to enhance periorbital drug delivery and provide targeted anti-inflammatory effects on the ocular surface[6][8]. The mechanism of action involves selective activation of the glucocorticoid receptor, leading to inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines without causing unwanted metabolic side effects typically associated with corticosteroids[2][3][6]. Clinical trials have shown that AXR-270 provides rapid symptom relief in dry eye disease and posterior blepharitis, with significant improvements in eye dryness, corneal staining, tear break-up time, and overall discomfort within 1–3 weeks of treatment[5][6]. No systemic steroid-related adverse events have been observed. As of early 2025, AXR-270 has completed phase 2 trials for these indications and is advancing into phase 3 development[3][4].
