Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ayapenam** is an intravenous fixed-dose antibacterial product marketed by Arax Pharma that contains **imipenem 500 mg + cilastatin 500 mg** per vial. Imipenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem beta-lactam antibiotic that covalently inhibits bacterial penicillin-binding proteins, disrupting peptidoglycan cell-wall synthesis and causing bacterial cell lysis. Cilastatin inhibits renal dehydropeptidase 1, limiting renal metabolism of imipenem and preserving its antibacterial exposure. Arax lists Ayapenam for serious susceptible bacterial infections including lower respiratory, urinary tract, intra-abdominal, gynecologic, bloodstream, bone and joint, skin and skin-structure infections, endocarditis, and prevention of postoperative infection.
