Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ayurved Siriraj Prasaplai is a standardized Thai traditional herbal formulation primarily used for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea and the regulation of menstruation. Developed and produced by the Center of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, this multi-ingredient remedy is based on the National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) of Thailand. Its primary active component is *Zingiber cassumunar* Roxb. (Plai), which contains phenylbutenoids such as (E)-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)butadiene (DMPB). The drug exerts its therapeutic effect through anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic mechanisms, specifically by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes and reducing the production of prostaglandins, which leads to a decrease in uterine smooth muscle contractions and pain relief.
