Azéane

Azéane is a topical dermatological cream containing 15% azelaic acid, developed by Laboratoire ACM for the management of skin imperfections associated with acne and rosacea. Azelaic acid is a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid that provides a multi-modal therapeutic approach. It acts as an antibacterial agent by inhibiting the protein synthesis of *Cutibacterium acnes* and *Staphylococcus epidermidis*. As a keratolytic agent, it normalizes the keratinization process, thereby reducing the formation of comedones. In the context of rosacea, azelaic acid exerts anti-inflammatory effects by downregulating the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as kallikrein-5 and cathelicidin, and by scavenging reactive oxygen species. Additionally, it is a competitive inhibitor of tyrosinase, which helps in reducing post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma.
