Overview

AZ58 is a Smac mimetic that has been investigated for its potential to overcome chemotherapy resistance in urothelial cancer cells. It functions by inducing apoptosis, specifically by reducing the expression of inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) such as cIAP1, cIAP2, and XIAP, and activating the NFκB pathway. Preclinical studies have shown that AZ58, particularly in combination with gemcitabine and cisplatin, can sensitize urothelial cancer cell lines to chemotherapy and decrease tumor burden in mouse models.
