Drug intelligence / Profile preview
aza-BODIPY-DOTA (also known as Wazaby-DOTA) is a water-soluble, monomolecular multimodal imaging probe (MOMIP) designed for dual-modality single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and near-infrared (NIR-I/NIR-II) fluorescence imaging. Developed by researchers at the Institut de Chimie Moléculaire de l'Université de Bourgogne (ICMUB) and the Laboratoire d'Immunologie et Immunothérapie des Cancers (LIIC) in France, the probe consists of a water-soluble aza-BODIPY fluorophore (referred to as "Wazaby") conjugated to a DOTA (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) chelating agent. This design allows for the chelation of radioisotopes such as indium-111 for SPECT imaging, while retaining the near-infrared fluorescence properties of the aza-BODIPY core for optical imaging and fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). The probe can be bioconjugated to monoclonal antibodies (such as trastuzumab targeting HER2, cetuximab targeting EGFR, or anti-PD-L1 antibodies) via random or site-specific labeling strategies to target specific cancer biomarkers.
